When is the next camp?
A: Tentatively, our next camps are being planned for April 2011 in Baltimore, MD. To be notified of camp dates, be sure to sign up for our e-Newsletter.
What if I’ve never done a triathlon - should I attend?
A: Absolutely! The beginner’s camp is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and resources to help prepare you for first triathlon.
Q: What if I’ve done many triathlons - should I attend?
A: Absolutely! We'll have a mix of levels of participants from beginners to experienced veterans with multiple options for all the workouts to accommodate different levels of experience and fitness. As a veteran, you will be able to share your experiences with the newer triathletes. We'll also have lots of time for Q&A so that you can ask the questions that you need answered.
Q: Where do the camps take place?
A: Check out each camp's page under the Camp menu tab for a listing of the camps that are currently available for registration.
Q: What lodging options are available?
A: Check out each camp's page under the Venue menu tab.
Q: What do I need to bring to the camp?
A: Please bring the following items (required):
- Swim suit, towel and goggles for swim clinic on Saturday
- Bike, bike helmet and comfortable clothing for bike ride on Saturday
- Running shoes and comfortable running clothing for run on Sunday
- Comfortable clothing for rest of the weekend
We’ll send you a more detailed list when you sign up for a camp.
Q: Are there any prerequisites for attending the camp?
A: For safety reasons, we ask that you be able to swim at least 50 yards or meters continuously in a pool for camps with pool swims and 100 yards or meters for camps with open water swims. We also ask that you bring lots of questions and a smile.
Q: What does the price of the camp include?
A: See each camp's page under the Camp menu tab for items unique to an individual camp.
Q: Are meals included?
A: Meals are included from Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. Please see each camp's page under the Camp menu tab for an individual camp.
Q: Will the camp include 'hands-on' training instruction and 'classroom' instruction?
A: Yes. We will "talk-the-talk" then you will have the opportunity to "walk-the-walk" with swim, bike and run workouts.
Q: For classroom instruction, will we need to bring own note taking material or will that be supplied?
A: We'll provide a notebook with a copy of all the handouts plus a notebook for note taking and pens.
Q: Will we be able to get individual feedback on swim stroke?
A: For camps with pool swims, we will provide individual stroke feedback. For lake swims, we will provide feedback if possible; however, our primary focus is on your safety in the open water.
Q: For those of us who are 'commuting' to/from the camp each day, will we have a place to stow our personal effects?
A: Yes, you'll be able to store your personal effects in our meeting space for each camp.
Q: What is the schedule of events for each camp?
A: Schedules will vary by camp. For an example camp schedule, please see the Sample Schedule.
Q: What are some of the other local events and triathlons for women only that I can sign up for?
A: There are a number of options. Below are some women’s only events in the Mid-Atlantic region. These events tend to close out early so be sure to sign up ASAP if you are interested.
- 6/27/10: Baltimore Women's Classic 5 km
- 8/1/10: Philadelphia Women’s Triathlon (0.5mi swim, 15.5mi bike, 3.1mi run)
- 8/22/10: IronGirl in Columbia, Maryland (0.6mi swim - 17.5mi bike - 3.4mi run)
Q: What is the Refund and Transfer Policy?
A: Deposits are non-refundable. Registration fee refunded at 75% or transferred to later clinic at 100% if requested more than 60 days from event. Registration fee refunded at 50% or transferred to later clinic at 100% if requested more than 30 days from event. No refunds or transfers within 30 days of event.
Q: What does “USAT Sanctioned Event” mean?
A: USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required. USA Triathlon provides rules, guidance and governance to set the standard for safe and fair multi-sport races.
